Sound EngineeringGOAL: To operate a professional recording session at a professional recording studio.
Students learn the fundamentals of the music recording process with professional recording equipment and Protools software. The objective is to enable students to operate in a professional recording studio during a recording session at the end of their summer program.
Step & PrecisionGOAL: Students showcase what they have learned at the presentation at the end of the program.
Along with intense precision & rhythmic training, students learn the meaning of brotherhood and sisterhood through the history of fraternities & sororities and unified teamwork.
TaratibuGOAL: Students showcase what they have learned at the presentation at the end of the program.
Spoken in Swahili, Taratibu is a Pan-African Drill originated by Mama Afia Akoto. It is based on South African gumboot dance and influenced by African Dance movement. The word Taratibu means "THE ORDER" in Kiswahili and teaches listening skills, discipline, heritage, respect for elders, self, and others.
Art & PhotographyGOAL:Students will work individually and in groups of four, creating projects to be displayed and showcased at the summer program demonstration, the foundation website and the fundraiser event.
Students will learn the basic techniques of art and photography. They will learn perspective, design, spectrum, angles, dimension, hue, etc. while challenging their creative skills and exploring possiblities & creativity.
Life Skills (Fridays)GOAL: To expose students to many different aspects of living a productive life.
Students will learn various life lesson-learned skills: speech, poise, etiquette and independent thinking. They will participate in group discussions about health, drug awareness, peer pressure, self-esteem, cultural events, world issues, community service and other related life topics.
Computer Skills / Money ManagementGOAL:To give elementary students a head start on web site creation & design, typing skills, and how to manage finances through accounting of points earned and spent equivalent to money.
African DanceGOAL:To allow students to experience the roots of African Dance & free movement.
Rhythm, music and story telling through movement & improvisation skills,will also be a focus with a live percussionist on site.
