The Mya Arts and Tech Foundation is dedicated to teaching youth around metropolitian Washington, D.C. in the fields of performing and visual arts, and computer technology. The Mya Arts and Tech Foundation (the “Foundation”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation chartered in April 27, 2005. The Foundation’s primary purpose is to provide education in the arts and technology for inner city and suburban youth (ages 5 - 13) throughout the metropolitan Washington D.C. area.
The Foundation is currently furthering its mission by providing sound engineering, dance and creative movement classes, and performances within the socio-economic area of Anacostia, located in Washington D.C. Through the Foundation, instructors not only offer performing arts education but also provide much-needed leadership and mentoring for the local youth community through Taratibu, step and precision, self esteem sessions and etiquette classes. The instructor corps is comprised of both compensated independent contractors and volunteers. The Foundation has held instructional classes and performances every summer beginning July 2005. This is the Foundation’s primary activity, and to date comprises 100% of its time and expenditures.
The Foundation plans to offer classes in other areas of arts education and expand its curricula over time to meet the needs of the youth community. These classes are likely to include but are not limited to the study of music, drama, videography, film, acting, and speech communication. By fulfilling its mission and expanding to multiple fields of education, the Foundation hopes to enable the youth of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area to engage their personal creative energy and provide exposure, awareness and opportunity.
